Not My Child: Contemporary Paganism & New Spirituality Not My Child: Contemporary Paganism & New Spirituality
By Linda Harvey / Living Ink

The culture that your child is growing up in today is permeated with a contemporary, pagan spirituality. Author Linda Harvey has been observing American culture for over a decade. If you want to know how to discern the difference between popular neopaganism and authentic Christianity, you'll find the help you need in Not My Child: Contemporary Paganism and New Spirituality. The important role a father plays in the life of his child is emphasized. You'll also find some practical tips you can use with your family. Paperback.

Linda Harvey has exposed the devil at work to deceive our children through the subtle avenues of supposed ‘innocent’ entertainment. As Second Corinthians 11:1-4,14 warns, we are witnessing another gospel creeping into our society and many of our churches; masked in spiritual language and designed to rob, kill and destroy our children. After pastoring thirty years, I can testify to the changes I have seen and people set free from the snare of the devil. Every pastor, parent, single adult, and teenager should read this book and return to combat duty immediately.

Andrew and Emma Murray - An Intimate Portrait of Their Marriage and Ministry

You'll laugh!, You may cry! You will be inspired!

The intimate story of a missionary-statesman, author of more than 200 Christian classics, and the wife who shared his ministry.
WOULD YOU BELIEVE?
  • that the man who prayed all his life for revival didn't recognize and tried to suppress the move of the Spirit when it began happening in his own church--until he himself had an encounter with the Holy Spirit?

  • That the conservative Dutch Reformed Church Moderator experienced divine healing after he was told by doctors he'd never preach again, and healing became a part of his ministry?

  • That lack of power in his early ministry resulted in a near breakdown physically--until he learned "the full blessing of Pentecost," as he termed it.

  • That the man who wrote the classic book "Humility" confessed that he fought pride and prominence as his lifelong enemies?

  • That he argued with his new bride about taking her grand piano and china dishes by ox cart to their distant wilderness parish since they would have to ford swift rivers?

Researching new material obtained from the Murray family archives and descendants in South Africa, the author introduces you to the flesh and blood man behind the popular deeper life Christian books. For the first time readers will meet Emma, his "new idea of a wife" as he called her, without whom Murray claimed he could never have accomplished his literary efforts.

The author drew intimate and fascinating details about Andrew's wife from out-of-print books of journals and family letters compiled by their granddaughter, Joyce Murray. Daily life of an English girl growing up in mid-Victorian Cape Town in the 1850s comes alive with human interest insights and humorous anecdotes. We experience with Andrew and Emma their whirlwind romance, covered wagon honeymoon, and first years of marriage in a wilderness parish. We smile at Emma's naive, newlywed views on child-rearing until she becomes a mother herself.

Without typewriters, computers or recording equipment and while raising eight children, Emma wrote down Andrew's prolific messages. Together they accomplished the writing of over 240 books and booklets published in 15 languages during their nearly fifty years of marriage. He admits to being too early famous, a boy preacher to whose meetings admiring crowds flocked, with conversions at every evangelistic service. As God matured this servant of God, he was eager to share the truths he found with his congregation and readers.

After more than a century and a half, Murray's writings are still guiding believers throughout the world into a deeper life in Christ. Many of his books are being reprinted today and continue to be popular with each succeeding generation. He had an anointed pen because he had an anointed heart.

Born in South Africa, the son of a Dutch Reformed pastor from Scotland, Murray studied in Scotland, Holland, and Germany before returning to South Africa. He traveled to England, the Continent and America preaching in prestigious pulpits, at Keswick conferences, and influencing his generation for Christ. Murray was also an educator and professor as well as a missionary statesman and evangelist. A friend of D.L. Moody and other prominent leaders who were instrumental in the Keswick movement, he directed the South African Keswick for many years.

The research for this fast-paced historical saga is gleaned from primary sources and authorized by the Murray Family Association in South Africa. A section of archival photos supplied by the Murray Family Museum and Centre in South Africa enriches this biography, along with an Appendix providing a synopses, dates and backgrounds of most of Murray's books in print. Each is cross-referenced to chapters chronicling events in his life. A Murray Family Register of immediate descendants, a Foreword by a direct Murray descendant, and contemporary testimonies from South Africa add to the value of this biography. The Epilogue by another descendant gives current news about Murray reunions and family highlights.

It may surprise us that this writer of serious spiritual books was a tender, loving husband and devoted father, known in his generation as a man of laughter, humor and ready wit. He lived transparently what he preached and wrote. This new biography helps the reader to identify with the human sides and struggles of Andrew and Emma which is sure to make the reading of his books more interesting.

  • By Faith Henry W Frost and the China Inland Mission
By Dr. and Mrs. Howard Tayor

    Excerpt From Forward

A Princeton student, Henry W. Frost by name, had turned into the room of a friend in one of the campus buildings. Blair Lee, the son of an Admiral who had served in the Civil War, was showing him an old revolver, the one which his father had carried in the navy. Not knowing that is was loaded, he was handling it without concern, when suddenly it went off, its muzzle barely three feet from the head of his companion. The bullet whizzed past, almost grazing the young man’s ear, and buried itself in the wall behind. Nothing was said as the revolver was returned to its place, both men too moved for words. But to one of them it came the conviction that his life has been saved for a purpose, by the watchful care of God.

    ************

This book is the story of a quest of faith to which that young man was led, a quest richly crowned with blessing to himself and others. It is told in his own words as far as possible, for the writers have had the privilege of access to Dr. Frost’s autobiography, letters, and other records, too full for present publication.
    My Personal Comments
BR> My time spent in this book was passed with great contemplation making personal notes on blank pages in the back of the volume. Following are accounts that inspired and encouraged me. “Conscience is only dependable as a guide to the extent it is enlightened.” - “Considered amusement a means to good end for promotion of social life to influence worldly people until he read 1 Cor. 10:31...do all to the glory of God.” -“Renounced politics” - “Effect of systematic study” - “Burned his bridges, no financial support, income” - “Longing for God’s best” - “Parting with valuables proved to God and to themselves their supreme love for Him” - ‘Trust God totally for needs” - “Prayer, be specific, definite” - “God answers exactly and gives more” - “Buddhist nun forsakes idols for Jesus” - “God knows the limitations of those who are truly seeking to do His will” - “Trials meant for our good but have to submit to learn” -“Boxers threatened old woman- if she didn’t offer incense to idols they would cut her hands off, she would not offer and they cut her hands off” - “Best evidence of Christianity is Christlike life” - “Simple faith, read and believe” - “Observations regarding persecution”. These are only a few of at least eighty eight comments I wrote. This courageous biography is one every Christian should read.

William Borden: An Overseas Missionary Fellowship book
    By Mrs. Howard Taylor

Upon the death of William Borden in 1913, a fellow student wrote Borden’s mother: “ Many young men live stronger, purer, more yielded lives because of the life your boy lived and because of the death he died. You cannot hear of them all. Your will know some day. The name of William Borden was more used than any other during the recent great Convention in Kansas City. Students remarked that the investment of life as Borden invested it was the greatest of all investments. The memory of such a son must be a blessing. I am glad he lived and lives.”

Read the challenging and uplifting story of an American millionaire who gave his inheritance and his life for the cause of Christ among Chinese Muslims.

MRS. HOWARD TAYLOR was the daughter-in-law of J. Hudson Taylor, founder of the China Inland Mission (now Overseas Missionary Fellowship).
